Paris - Sunday, 18 June 2018

Wow, it sure felt good to sleep almost 7 1/2 hours. The body is up to walking today, thank goodness. Great win by the Pirates last night. Nova is a gem and another 4 out save for Rivero. Add a Cutch home run and all is fine with the world.

The Internet is a huge issue on board ship. It is very slow and even text is difficult to post.

Started this morning with a city tour of Paris with Martine. We saw all of the high spots - The Eiffel Tower, Arc de’ Triumph, Champs Elysées, and Invalides. It was relatively quiet in London on a Sunday morning. We stopped for a photo shoot at the Eiffel Tower.

Then a stop at a very ethnic 20th arrondissement. There was a memorial for all the Jewish children of that district who were lost in the war.

Continuing through the park we came upon a wonderful market that would provide everything that you would need for dinner!

We continued the drive through the Louvre and around the gardens. It was just about 12:30 when we left the bus at the Musée d’Orsay. Oh, how the building has changed from the first time we had seen it in 2003. What once used to be the Paris to Orleans (PO) Railway station is now a magnificent museum devoted to mostly modern and contemporary art.

We bought our tickets at a kiosk around the corner from the museum and saved a very long wait in queue in the sweltering sun. Decided that toilets and a bite to eat were first priorities. After a quick sandwich and some water - Barbara decided on beer - we were off to the 5th floor. This floor is dedicated to the Impressionists. Listened to Rick Steves’ Audio Travel Guide as I enjoyed so many paintings by Monet, Manet, Cezanne, Pissaro, and Sisley. Took a brief walk out on the terrace. Two floors devoted to Nuveau Artes, and the back to the ground floor to see Gaugin, Toulouse Lautrec, and some Millett.

It was a full afternoon that we were glad to have spent in a museum out of the heat. Took a taxi back to the ship in time to change for dinner.

There was the Captain’s welcome, port talk and a lot of champagne and wine!

Dinner was an Amouse Bouche, Roast Duck Salad, Sautéed Prawns, Whole Pink Veal Loin Fillet with green beans and onion pie, and a Creme Brulee with Belgian Waffle, followed by Petit Fours and a Fromage Buffet.

We finished just in time to catch our cab to the Moulin Rouge for the 11:00 show. Our Program Director, Guillaume, is just outstanding. He made all the arrangements for us.

Picked up our tickets at the Moulin Rouge and snaked our way through the theater to be seated. Just conjour Disneyworld. We had outstanding seats for one of the most spectacular shows ever. All the amazing dancers, side acts, including a woman who swam with boa constrictors, and singing.

Had 2 bottles of champagne included with the performance, but brought one back to the ship. Show ended at 1:10 and we were back to the ship by 1:30. To bed around two. It was a short night.
