Oy, did the Pirates lose big last night, 9-5 to the Cubs.
This morning we were off to Paris and the beginning of the river cruise. It was about a 3 hour trip to the ship. Arrived around noon and dropped our carry ons and in our cabin and headed to the dining room for lunch. Sailing on the MS/Bizet. It seems a bit smaller than last year’s ship, but the crew and staff all incredibly pleasant, friendly, and helpful.
After lunch headed out to Pére Lachaise cemetery. Had visited there on one of the Passport teachers conventions, but wanted Barbara, Charles, and Earle to see it. However, just Earle and I ventured there this time since Barbara and Charles had some other matters to which they needed to attend. Successfully navigated the metro including one change. It really is easy to get around and our ship was docked just about .3 miles from the nearest station.
It was very pleasant to stroll through the graves with a breeze and some shade. It was good to go today since the temps are supposed to be in the low 90s the next two days. We only had a couple of hours and tried to map out the graves we wanted to see. We found Charlie Chaplin, Sarah Bernhardt, and Yves Montand, but ran out of time before seeing Chopin and Jim Morrison.
| Because of all the kisses and lipstick they have plexiglass surrounding Wilde's grave now. |
Made it back to the ship before the captain’s safety briefing and welcome drink. Never pass up champagne. One thing new this cruise is free beer, wine, and soft drinks at any time of the day. A cold beer is a welcome drink when it is too hot outside. The Program Directors, Guillaume, Amandine, and Christophe seem super. All have a different personality, but are intelligent, fun, and extremely accommodating.
My legs and body were very tired having walked 5.3 miles in the cemetery and so it was an early bedtime.
